What is a Sound Bath?
In a sound bath session you will be lying on your yoga mat for approximately 1 hour immersed in soothing sounds. The aim during this hour is to promote a space for solace and relaxation. In a group session I use several sound instruments such as tibetan singing bowls, crystal singing bowls, drums, gongs, chimes and percussion instruments. The sounds and vibrations of the instruments influence our brainwave frequencies. We often move away from an active brainwave state to a calmer state known as theta. After a session people feel the restorative effects on the mind and body.

Maria Browne
Welcome to my story
I am from Galway and live in Knocknacarra with my husband and daughter. After completing my Leaving Certificate, I moved to Limerick to become a Mental Health Nurse. Initially, I had no idea what the role of a Mental Health Nurse truly entailed, but I quickly discovered my love for it. Over the past twenty-five years, I have worked in various mental health settings working with children to older adults. I have also spent some time supporting Student Nurses in their training.
An important part of my role as a Mental Health Nurse has been facilitating group work with service users. These groups can vary from teaching life skills, providing education and relaxation sessions. Balancing work, home, family, health, and a social life can be challenging, and I know I am not alone in this. Many times, while supporting service users in a relaxation group I have thought everyone can benefit from some time out for a guided relaxation session away from the stresses of everyday life. This realization led me to sound healing, and I started a course with the aim of facilitating relaxation groups in my local community. My goal is to provide a space where people can switch off from the demands of everyday life, with no expectations other than to turn up and immerse themselves in soothing sounds.
I chose the name Solstice Soundbath because, like the seasons, we all experience changes depending on our current life circumstances. In the summer, there is more daylight, and our lives can reflect that feeling of lightness and contentment. Conversely, during the winter solstice, when there is more darkness, life can feel more challenging and gloomier. Regardless of the season you are experiencing, I aim to provide a space for solace and relaxation.
Hope to see you soon,
Maria
